Losing Heat in a Storm

The weather where we live is absolutely crazy! My family and I have been living out West for as long as I can remember.

  • I was born in New England, but we moved west shortly afterward.

My husband and I got married about ten years ago, and I thought for sure that we would move when we got married because my husband hates the weather here, but we didn’t. We stayed put, and we have endured some terrible storms in the last ten years. The most common storms we have are simply severe thunderstorms with high winds, but we also get quite a few tornadoes each year. The worst tornado we had was back about five years ago. It happened in the afternoon on a Saturday. The tornado ended up touching down near our house. Thankfully, we were all safe, but we did lose electricity for over a week. The hardest part was keeping the house warm. The temperatures were in the high thirties low forties range, and the winds were terrible. Our house is rather old and pretty drafty. Some friends let us borrow their propane heater to try and keep our house warm. It helped a lot, but it only reached the living room and kitchen area, so we ended up all sleeping and spending our days in the living room. In the end, we had some fun times but a cold times. I am trying to convince my husband to move East so that we don’t have to deal with that again, but he doesn’t seem to want to.
