Home automation in two locations

Should a window break or a water pipe burst, it’s nice to know that we could allow a professional inside to complete repairs

When my husband and I retired from our jobs, we were anxious to get away from the sub zero temperatures, feet of snow and especially long winters of the northeast. We purchased a home in the south and split our time between the two properties. This allows us to enjoy the bedst of the weather in each location. We avoid the intense heat and humidity of southern summers. We spend around six months in each home. When the residences are unoccupied, we worry about break-ins and damage. Up north, there is the very real possibility of a power failure, no heat and frozen pipes. In the the south, the high winds and severe storms often bring down tree limbs. We have found that installing a home automation system into each property provides convenience, security and peace of mind. Whether or not we are in residence, we have access to the various systems through our smartphones, tablets or laptops. Surveillance cameras provide real-time footage of the area surrounding the home, and we receive alerts if anyone enters the perimeter. Motion activated lights turn on, and we can see who is standing on our doorstep. We can even converse with the person. It’s helpful to be able to unlock the door for the neighbor who waters the plants or service providers. Should a window break or a water pipe burst, it’s nice to know that we could allow a professional inside to complete repairs. The home automation system includes smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, moisture sensors and the smart thermostat. We are alerted to temperature fluctuations, HVAC issues, flooding, glass breakage, unauthorized entrance to the home and more.
