Never again with the gas furnace

So perhaps we picked the wrong time to move south.

Moving here in the middle of July is for sure one way to get a taste of what Summer will be like for the rest of my life.

But moving here has always been the plan. Still, I’m not going anywhere but the central air conditioning of our new place during the afternoon heat and humidity. Just walking to the car turns me into a sweaty mess. I think I’m going to have to get one of those remote starter for the car. It would be so nice if I could start the car and get the air conditioning running a bit before I go somewhere. It literally takes me five minutes to cool the car down before I can leave the driveway. And believe me, that five minutes is a hot one even with the air conditioning on max. Yet, I know that we made the right decision. While this level of Summer heat is going to be tough to acclimate to, I’m all for it. The simple fact is that I just couldn’t take anymore Winter weather. Having grown up with all that cold, I was just done. Never again do I want to see or need a gas furnace. While I’m awfully thankful that we had such good heating from our gas furnace, I just can’t do that sort of cold any longer. Now that we made it to the retirement finish line, I’m sticking with the heat pump for all of my heating and cooling needs. But from what I understand, there won’t be all that much need for heating in my future. My neighbor says that he doesn’t even turn on the heat pump in the Winter. He has a space heater that he deploys if it’s a bit chilly in the morning.
