We had a fairly mild winter this year, but we had a few days when it got colder.
Unfortunately, most of the days were in the early spring. My husband thinks the furnace should be turned off at the beginning of April. April brought us snow and freezing rain. I came home from work one afternoon, and my husband had the oven on. I thought he was starting dinner, but it wasn’t dinner that caught my attention. He was sitting in front of the oven with the door open. He told me it was a convenient space heater. I told him it was an expensive space heater, and turned it off. I walked over and turned up the thermostat until I heard the furnace running. He walked over and turned it back off. He told me we were wasting oil, and oil was expensive. I told him we were wasting gas when he was warming his feet with the stove. Gas was expensive. When he started complaining he was cold, I told him to turn up the thermostat. The furnace was made to keep it warm in the house. There were complaints that it was April, and it was spring. We shouldn’t need the furnace. I reminded him when he turned on the air conditioning in January, because it was humid in the house. He needed to turn on the furnace, because it was supposed to stay cold for the next two weeks. We were still using the furnace off and on up until June. It has just gotten warm enough to consider the air conditioning, but that is only because it is humid.
