AC in My First Car

I was that typical teenager whose first car wasn’t the nicest.

  • My parents offered to match whatever money had saved up towards a vehicle once I got my license.

Unfortunately, my dad was in a pretty serious car accident, and my parents had quite a few unexpected medical bills. My dad still wanted to match my money, but I just didn’t want my parents to give me money for a car that they could be using to pay my dad’s medical bills. I didn’t have much money of my own saved up because I didn’t get a consistent job until after I bought my car. When I first bought the car, the air conditioning worked, but within about four weeks, the AC went out. It was very frustrating to drive a car without air conditioning because the summers and even Autumns where I live are really hot and muggy. I can remember just driving down the road and within minutes, my makeup was melting off my face. I would sometimes just pull over and cry because of how hot and uncomfortable I was in my car. Thankfully, I started dating my now husband, and he loved to work on cars. He had my AC working again within a day, and I was absolutely astonished. Having air conditioning made my life so much easier. I was actually able to enjoy driving my car, and I think, that is the time when I really got attached to it. Many years later, I look back at that time with both good and bad memories, but I find myself laughing at how much of a pain not having air conditioning was to me. Although to this day, I still miss my first car.
