Heating My House

I am so thankful to own a beautiful four bedroom house, but it is quite difficult and expensive to keep the house heated. My husband and I purchased our beautiful home about one year after we were married. Before we bought our house, we lived in a studio apartment, so I was very ready to move into something bigger. For the first few months, I was infatuated with our new home. I spent hours painting and decorating our it, and I loved every second of it. After about four months, winter hit, and it hit hard. Our house is a little older, and the furnace just couldn’t keep up. We tried a couple different things to try and keep heat from escaping and cold air from entering, but it just didn’t work. We put blankets on the windows and doors, and it did make a small difference but not enough to keep the house comfortable. We ended up supplementing heat. We purchased some small, electric heaters for the bedrooms and bathroom, and then we bought an electric fireplace for the living room area. It was a little expensive to buy these things, but they have honestly saved us a lot of money in the long run. Now that we have those electric heaters and our fireplace, the house is much warmer. One other thing that we did that really made a difference was adding more insulation to our home. Insulating was quite a project, but it has made such a difference in keeping the heat in the house. In the end, it was a lot of work, but we now have a much warmer house, and I love it!
