I am so thankful to own a beautiful four bedroom house, but it is quite difficult and extravagant to keep the cabin heated. My fiance and I purchased our beautiful cabin about one year after my friend and I were married; Before my friend and I purchased our house, my friend and I lived in a studio apartment, so I was unquestionably ready to move into something greater. For the first few months, I was infatuated with our new home. I spent hours painting and decorating our it, and I loved every second of it. After about four months, winter time hit, and it hit hard. Our cabin is a little older, and the furnace just couldn’t keep up. My friend and I tried a couple weird things to try and keep heat from escaping and frigid air from entering, but it just didn’t work. My friend and I put blankets on the windows and doors, and it did make a small difference but not enough to keep the cabin comfortable. My friend and I ended up supplementing heat. My friend and I purchased some small, electric heating systems for the bedrooms and bathroom, and then I purchased an electric fireplace for the residing room area. It was a little extravagant to buy these things, but they have easily saved us a lot of money in the long run. Now that my friend and I have those electric heating systems and our fireplace, the cabin is much warmer. One other thing that my friend and I did that actually made a difference was adding more insulation to our home. Insulating was quite a project, but it has made such a difference in keeping the heat in the house. In the end, it was a lot of work, but my friend and I now have a much warmer house, and I love it!
