The more time goes on, the more scientific articles come out about how negative modern office work is for human beings. Everyone knows that office workers suffer from poor posture, carpal tunnel, and various back problems. You’re also forced to live a sedentary lifestyle which brings about diabetes, weight gain, and heart failure. There are plenty of things to be nervous about as someone who stares at a computer all day. However, no one ever really talks about the problems faced by modern office workers when it comes to indoor temperature settings. In fact, I’ve never seen a scientific paper that mentions thermostat control as a form of mental and physical abuse within an office setting. I can tell you, thermostats have the power to completely ruin your life. If you work somewhere with unfortunate Heating and Cooling appliances or coworkers with vastly different temperature preferences, your entire life can suffer inside and out of work. For many years, I worked in an office where they set the thermostat incredibly low. At least, I think that it’s a very low. I shiver in my seat every day and repeatedly lose feeling in my fingers. I always wear numerous layers to work, including several heavy sweaters. Still, I’m always too cold to even think straight. When I leave work after 8 freezing hours, I can never get warm. The overwhelming cold lowers my immune system too, so I’m often sick when I leave the office. As much as I enjoy being a low-level secretary, I’m starting to think that this job isn’t worth all of the cold heartache.
