When my husband decided to take up a hobby I didn’t realize that it would consume quite so much time or money.
It really seemed harmless enough when he purchased a beer brewing kit to try and make his own beverages.
This was over 4 years ago and since that time his, “Hobby”, has taken over much of our garage and many of our weekends. It seems that he is always either brewing a batch of beer, bottling it, we’re having friends over for a beer tasting event. I can’t even begin to tell you how much money he has spent on equipment or supplies. For this reason when he approached me about upgrading our HVAC system to accommodate his beer storage area I was a bit irritated. I didn’t see why we should upgrade the entire system when he only needed one room at a cooler temperature. The small bedroom at the back of the house is used to store his finished product as well as many of the grains and supplies that he needs. I suggested that we purchase a separate unit all together for that area. This would enable him to keep his space at whatever he liked without affecting the rest of the house and save on our energy bills overall. He agreed to that idea and we contacted our HVAC dealer to figure out what unit would work best in that room. I still wasn’t thrilled about spending more money on his stuff but at least we would not be losing money on spoiled beer or grains either.
